So, I'm a grader this semester and I have a question for you all: (all 3 or 4)
In the event that a student gives an answer that is obviously rediculous, is it inappropriate to call their results "garbage"?

How old is the student?
If they weren't taking the exercise seriously (and it merits taking seriously), I would definitely make fun of them.
So no, depending on the circumstances I might call their results "garbage".

I was wondering this also. If a student writes an essay which has no merit beyond the amount of pages it fulfils, it is ok to say something like: 'you and I both know this is B.S.-- see me after class'? In theory, I think it would be justifiable.
I wouldn't say it to my students, but they're in junior high. College students? Let 'er rip.
If they are college age, go for it.

Wow I got a lot of responses to this, thanks! I will carefully consider. What I gather then, is that by the time a student is in college and trying to specialize in a particular field, it is ok to be a little rougher on them than highschoolers, if they mess up on something they should know. Limited by the golden rule, of course. Thanks for the input.
And on a different note...
